McCoy Rigby’s Broadway U (BU) is an after-school program of McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts that was designed specifically to assist the dreams of high school students, grades 9 – 12, with aspirations of careers in the Performing Arts, and more specifically, Musical Theatre. BU provides the most comprehensive classes, rigorous coursework, and professional training available in the region for aspiring young Musical Theatre performers. The educational opportunities available at BU will provide the essential tools necessary to build, achieve, and sustain a career on Broadway and beyond.
BU students are selected by audition. Based upon their demonstrated level of experience, craft, and technique, students accepted into BU will be placed into one of three levels, Under-Graduate, Masters, or Graduate. BU is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Graduate level students of BU may receive high school snd/or college credit for selected coursework. Student must audition annually for BU and acceptance is not guaranteed.
The faculty of BU is comprised of working professional actors, singers, directors, choreographers, composers and writers. The core faculty is supplemented by “Guest Master Teachers” consisting of celebrated artists and professionals from Broadway, Hollywood, and regional theatres throughout the nation.
The BU offers similar, yet less-intensive, coursework to young people, grades 6-8, selected by audition in its Preparatory Program called BU-Prep. In addition to their coursework, Prep students also have the opportunity to participate in selected master classes and workshops with Broadway’s most celebrated professionals, alongside the BU students, and in performing groups and performance opportunities specifically designed for the BU-Prep.
