RECITAL 2010 INFORMATION

July 21st—23rd

Updated 8/410

We are excited to announce that we are planning our Fourth recital for McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts.  Learning to perform in front of an audience is an important part of Arts education.  Not only does it breed confidence, but it is also a great reward for your performers who work hard all year long.  The teachers have already begun talking with your dancers about recital and many classes are well on their way to learning choreography for the big show.  Our award winning dance team will be performing their competition numbers. Our musical theatre classes will portray characters from Alice in Wonderland and the technique classes are performing all new choreography based on our theme…Boogie Wonderland, 2010! We will even have an art show in the lobby to show off the beautiful work the art classes have created.

Performances

Performances will be held at the beautiful La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, which is home to the McCoy Rigby Entertainment series of professional theatre productions.  Boogie Wonderland, 2010! will be held on Wednesday, July 21nd, Thursday, July 22nd  and Friday, July 23rd .

Ticket

Please refer to the information on the left side of this page regarding ticket sales. You may recall that all seats at La Mirada Theatre are great seats.

Technical Rehearsal

Mandatory technical rehearsals will begin on Tuesday July 20th and continue through July 21st. Please do not schedule activities such as summer camp, vacations, weddings, etc. during this week because every dancer is important to the group and must have an opportunity to practice on the stage with costumes and lighting.  The stage rehearsal schedule will be posted on the bulletin board when we get closer to the event. Each class will be needed for at least an hour at the theatre and this will replace their regularly scheduled classes for the week. Click here to for details about the technical rehearsal.

Photos

Photos will be taken July 17-18 from 9-5 pm, in our studio, just prior to the week of recital.  Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your scheduled time.  We tend to run early.

New This Year

Regular classes will not be in session the month of August. Please look for eblasts and check our website for information about summer camps and events and our summer schedule. Click here to find out about all of our summer camps.

Closing Number

If your dancer would like to participate in our closing number, please look for the sign up sheet at the front desk.  This number is open to everyone, but we can’t put all 600+ students on stage at once, so we will take students on a first come first served basis.  We will do our best to get everyone who is interested involved in the closing number.  Please note that you must be available for Sunday rehearsals beginning in May if you want to be in the closing number. There will be a participation fee and you must purchase a recital t-shirt as well.

Father Daughter Dance

Last year was our first annual father-daughter dance and it was a huge success! If your dancer would like to participate in our father-daughter routine with her dad, please look for the sign up sheet at the front desk.  This number is open to everyone. If our number gets too large, we will form 3 different groups and have each group of father-daughter couples perform once. Please note that you must be available for Sunday rehearsals beginning in May if you want to be in the father-daughter routine. There will be a participation fee and a small costume charge as well.

T-Shirt Design Contest

For the last two recitals we held a “Design our recital t-shirt” contest.  It was a great success and the t-shirt design you chose was absolutely charming.  Please urge your artist to participate this year. Please create the design on a white 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. Be sure to include your name and the time and day of one of your dance classes on the back of the paper. Have Fun! Be creative! You may also sign up for the t-shirt art class if you’d like some guidance on designing a brilliant t-shirt.
Please make sure your artwork includes the following:

Costumes

We order most of our recital costumes from costume catalogs. Your dancers have most likely already been measured in their classes and please note that we do allow for growth when ordering costumes.  The cost average per costume plus recital participation fee is $80.00-$130.00 with a few of the elaborate ballet costumes and musical theatre costumes being a bit more.  If no additional costume purchase is necessary, (such as dance team members who already have costumes for their number) a participation fee of $12.00 per routine is charged.  A costume book will be available at the front desk so you can see what the teacher has picked based on the song, style of dance, ages and sizes of students.   Costumes are sized small, medium and large and some alterations may be necessary upon arrival.  These costs are additional but usually very minimal.  In order to participate in recital, all costumes must be paid for in full by Friday, April 2nd.  Please use the order form attached and fill out a separate form for each student.
